Bengawan Solo at Junction 8 preserves Singapore's cherished Peranakan heritage through traditional kueh and confectionery crafted using time-honored methods established since 1979, representing one of 45 islandwide outlets of this beloved homegrown bakery brand. Founded by Indonesian migrant Mrs. Anastasia Liew from Palembang, this household name continues the tradition of preparing each confection in the modest back kitchen style that made the original east coast corner store famous, maintaining the same commitment to finest ingredients, freshest preparation, and absolutely no artificial preservatives that has distinguished Bengawan Solo for over four decades.
The outlet showcases Singapore's most treasured traditional treats including the famous Pandan Chiffon Cake, recognized by CNN in 2017 as Singapore's National Cake, alongside authentic Peranakan specialties like Ondeh Ondeh with molten palm sugar centers, colorful Kueh Lapis Sagu rainbow layer cakes, and traditional favorites such as Kueh Bugis, Getuk Ubi, Kueh Dadar, Kueh Kosui, and Talam Gula Melaka. Additional offerings include butter cakes, cookies, and seasonal specialties that reflect both Indonesian heritage and local Singaporean tastes, all prepared with the same artisanal quality that has made Bengawan Solo synonymous with premium local confectionery and a firm favorite among overseas visitors seeking uniquely Singaporean food gifts.
Located within Junction 8's food court area, Bengawan Solo provides convenient access to authentic Peranakan desserts and traditional cakes for families exploring Singapore's culinary heritage during their shopping experience. The outlet maintains Bengawan Solo's reputation for homemade quality and traditional preparation methods, ensuring each customer receives the same exceptional taste and freshness that transformed a humble neighborhood bakery into Singapore's most recognized kueh brand. Whether seeking nostalgic childhood flavors, cultural food experiences, or premium gifts representing Singapore's culinary identity, Bengawan Solo Junction 8 delivers authentic Peranakan traditions and artisanal excellence in the heart of Bishan's modern retail environment.
The sliced cakes that I am given is always smaller than the one on display. When I asked for the one on display instead they refused to give it and insisted that it is the same lol

This is $2.60. U can buy 1 veg and 1 meat with rice at s11 with $2.60 now. Every year bengawan sure increase the prices of their items. Worst of all, look at the pathetic size. If you buy multiples, also no discounted rate. You buy doubles , the price is still x2. Is it cost price really so high or the corporate is greedy? When polar cake had to increase prices they put up notice to apologise that they had to do that. but they also conducted several buy 1 free 1 promotions. For example they would allow customers to buy vouchers at buy1free1 aka 50% off and allow redemption for 2 months. This is the last time I will buy from bengawan. Too high class for normal people like me. I will use the money to buy ccp. Hope bengwana can continue to solo and prosper alone.

A little late in my review. Bought their tapioca cake with grated orange coconut on top a few months ago. Coconut had turned sourish. Was surprised that they don’t qc their product.

I always buy the butterfly shaped kueh bangkit from bengawan solo every CNY but I refuse to get it this year because the price increase is ridiculous. It now cost $25.50 when it used to be <$20 for the past few years. Even the Nyona kueh price also keep going up and yet the kueh size has shrank!!

Service was extremely rude and reluctant, expressing tones of attitude. I mistaken the shop for closing at 10pm instead of 9.30pm, in the end we manage to finish the process before 9.30pm -_-. Very unprofessional stay away from them near closing time if not you’ll get bark at.

This swiss given to us is much smaller than the ones on display. I dunno is it instructed by company or staff trying to steal from company. But it is definitely unethical, cheating and misrepresenting. Wont be buying anymore from you.

I went to J8 Branch at 6:45pm today to make purchases at Bengawan Solo. I was about to make payment via Shoeepay, while the customer infront of me was also using Shopeepay. As most shops that uses Shopeepay resulted in a long queue of customers, I just decided to step forward to scan the QR code first so that the cashier do not have to wait when I pass her the payment. Instead of "appreciate" the effort to "save her time", she shouted at me to queue up and not make payment until the customer in front of me do so.
When I was about to make payment, the cashier then told me that only 1 phone, maximum of 3 transactions can only be used. I agree that only 3 transactions can only be used as it was clearly stated on Shopee's T&C, but I told her that all the merchants that I have visited did not have any issue using more than 1 phones to make payment as it is not stated in the T&C. (To provide more context, I was not even making any split payment)
She then told me off and say that this is already stated in the T&C of Shopee. I explained to her that it is not as I was a regular user of Shopeepay and just wanted to feedback to her that I did not face any issue with any other vendor. Her collegue then stepped forward and then attacked me and say that it is in the T&C which she showed me the screenshot from a Whatsapp message, indicating that this is from the management. I told her that the T&C does not state anything about the 2 phones and I said to her I respect Bengawan solo's poloicy of not allowing 2 phones but just wanted to highlight that the arguement that it is in Shopee's T&C is flawed and that it is Bengawan Solo's T&C. She then told me off again and said that this is from the management. I then repeated myself again and told her that this is just a feedback because other merchants do not have this clause.
I really do not understand why the staffs cannot be more open to feedback and have to started shouting for no particular reason. A scene was being made and people was staring inside the Bengawan Solo shop and it make me looked so bad as 2 staffs was attacking one. In all due respect, if it is a policy, it is ok, but just say it nicely? Why do we have to resort to scream and shout?
On a side note, I realised that the "dessert" that I bought should comes with gula melaka and the cahsier didn't even give me and I had to make a detour just to get it. (By then, there was no crowd after a scene was formed).
I sincerely appreciate Bengawan Solo to look into this as staffs actions was really unnecessary and uncalled for. I know that technology changes is a new thing and staffs (especially older ones) may take time to adapt but if there is no need to shout back at the customers in multiple occasions and not take feedback openly.

Bought pandan, white lotus, yam and matcha snow skin mooncakes. The yam paste snow skin is wet. The mooncake got stuck on the plastic tray and the bottom skin got peeled off as I lift the mooncake up. The pattern on the top of the mooncake can't be seen clearly and it has condensation on it. Too sweet for me. First and last.
